Triathlon Coach

MX Endurance is pleased to have Chris Wood on our ever-growing roster of triathlon coaches.

A long-time MX member since our inception in 2013, Chris is currently working with Telford Triathlon Club in the UK helping athletes ranging from those starting their multi-sport journey to those preparing for long-distance racing, managing many of the coached sessions, social rides, runs and swims.

He understands the crucial role a good mentor plays between starting a sport and continuing to be engaged in it. “I first dabbled with triathlon in around 2003 whilst living in London, in an oversized windsurfing wetsuit, mountain bike with road tyres and likely trainers with too many miles in them. But it took until 2008 and a chance meeting with a 17-time Ironman who'd just got back from Race Across America that I got properly introduced to the sport.”

Chris qualified to race his first European Championship in 2011 and has qualified for Great Britain 10 times since. He also raced the 2015 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Zell am See and has done six full distance triathlons, including Ironman Switzerland and Challenge Roth.

He has lived the experience of being a competitive age-group athlete while working full-time. He says, “I’ve become accustomed to the challenge of fitting training around the demands of work, travel, and family as well as the need to ensure a balance is created outside of sport to stimulate other interests as well as ensure proper rest and recovery.”

He believes flexibility in training and being creative while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible generates confidence that leads to positive results.
